August 30, 0.5 a.m.) London, August 29. •V hurricane, sometimes attaining a velocity of a Wired miles an hour, swept the South of England and Wales for erontv-fonr horns. There were several wrecks in the Channel where the worst August gales on record were experienced. Much damage inu: done to the fruit and wheat crops. Thousands of acres of wheat have been cut, but harvesting has been impossible for ten days The shortage of labour will make it impossible for many of the farmers to repair the damage by hand labour, particularly in the hop-fields There are serious floods in Wales. Ihe situation in Ireland, owine to the rams, is also serious.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
