HIS POSITION DEFINED. A question by Mr. Parr in the House of Representatives drow an explanation from the Minister of Defence regarding the position of General Godley, Mr. Parr asked the Minister of Dofence, whether, in view of tho fact that General Godley, so far as the army corps is concerned, is appointed and paid by tho Imperial Government, ho will inform tho Hou6o tho precise naturo of tho existing engagement, if any, between the New Zealand Government and General Godley as regards tha Now Zealand Expeditionary i'oroe, stating tho length of his term and his dudes?
, Sir James Allen replied: There is no definite terra of contract between tho Now Zealand ■Government and General Godley. When General Godley was promoted by tho Imperial authorities to tho command of an army corps ho volunteore<l to continue to direct tho administration of tho New' Zealand Expeditionary Forces in general. This offer was gladly accepted by the Now Zealand Government, with the approval of. the Aimy Council. General Godley co-ordinates tho work of General Russell commanding the Now Zealand Expeditionary Forco in Prance, General Chaytor commanding tho New Zealand Expeditionary Forco in Egypt, and General Richardson in the Unitfd Kingdom. *mJJI co-ordination of tho New Zealand Expeditionary Forces is absolutely essential.
