WRONGFULLY ARRESTED
'DEFENCE OFFICER'S BLUNDER. The ease of Patrick William O'Sullivan, a reservist, who was arrested near Gore on a charge of failing to report himself for medical examination at "is- , borne was mentioned in the House of'Represcntatives by Mr. G. J. Anderson (Mataura), who said that the man had suffered a serious injustice. Ho had been arrested while ploughing, on a charge ot hiiYing failed to attend for examination after being drawn in the ballot, when flie truth was that he had been tlischarged from camp as medically lmfit. Si'r James Allen said a mistake had been made by tho Defence Department in this ease. It was one. of tho regrettable mistakes that could not bo avoided when many thousands o£ names were being dealt with, and tho Department must take all tho blamo. Ihe man ha'd been arrested owing to tho mi6lako of an officer who had attached a notion to (ho wrong file. Ho was informed that tho officer responsible for tho mistalte was no longer employed in tlio sanio branch of the Defence Department.
