WAR FUNDS COLLECTING COMMITTEE A meeting of the entertainment and side-lines committee in connection with the appeal for "Our Day" and Blind Soldiers and Sailors was held in the Ked Cross looms last evening, Mr. M. A. Carr in the chair. The following sub-commit-tees were set up :-Organising committee for "Paddy's Market,", Mesdames J. P Luke. T. M. Wilford, W. Nathan, M. Myers, Preston, and H. Wright, Messrs. Hi.A. Bead, W. E. Fuller, .1. H. Holhwell H. Cair, F. J. Evans, and tr. Lauchlan, who solicit applications from all those who aro willing to take stalls and offer suggestions of novel schemes to he worked in connection mth the above object. Concerts, lectures, and entertainments committee: The following were appointed to submit a ropon to the main committee :-Mh. J. A. Hannah, Misses Estelle Beere nnd Gladys CamnbclC Messrs. T. M. Wilford, M.P., H. Carr. W. E. Fuller, .T. H. Helliwell, Fraser Thomson, H. F. Wood, G. F. Wilson. N. Aitken; M. A. Carr, and H. Moschini. Surprise Packets.—Mr. Wilford moved that the organisation of this popular function be left to the commercial travellers and warehousemen, and in doinp: so requested that a minute be recorded expressing the appreciation of the committee to the travellers for their excellent wort in ' all patriotic movements. The organisers for surprise packets are Messrs. E. M. Brewer, C. Rushbrook, and T. Inglis. Numerous suggestions were put forth by members present, and were left to the special committee to deal with. The Victoria University College Christian Union held its fortnightly meeting on Saturday evening. Mr. E. J. D. Hercus, M.A., of Wellington College, gave an address on "The Case for Missions." The address was an introduction fo a series of stadies which the union is holding. Mr. Herciis traced the devclopmen of the idea of a missionary church —a church which should embrace the whole world. He showed that missionary enterprise was not something added on to the church, but that it was nssenlial if tlip church was to be what God had inlonded it. Commissioner and Mr?.
