SUNNY HAWKE'S BAY
$ A CHEEKY EECEUIT. A southerly galo lashed the Trent ham railway platform ns the Napier express drew in on Thursday night. The camp officers and n.c.o's who were attending to the detraining of recruits wore oilskin coats and hats, from which the rain streamed. It was a wild night. Tho first two carriages of the train were packed with, recruits, many without overcoats. As they paired out with the storm, tho Camp Baud greeted them with tho cheery advice to "pack up their troubles in theid old kitbags and 6iuile, smile, smile." Among tho recruits there was at least one man who took the hint. Abovo tho bellowing of the wind and the playing of the band this blithe individual could be heard declaiming, "I'm all tho way from sunny Ilawke's Bay. What's the matter with me?" No one appeared to have any fault to find with him, and he and his comrades passed at a quick march into camp, where they wore given dry clothes and a hot meal.
