We aro overcoming the enemy's resistance northward of Gorizia and. gaining now successes along our wholo lino of battle. Tho number of prisoners has now reached 13,311, with thirty guns and great booty. Our aeroplanes have tho mastery of the air, and bombarded troops and caused conflagrations along the enemy's lines of communication. Everywhere wo rcpuilsed attaclcs. in the Trentino and Carnia. A BATTLE OF UNPRECEDENTED VIOLENCE 1 EXTRAORDINARY FEATS ON THE-ISONZO. ' A ', ( London, August 22. Tho "Daily Mail's" correspondent reports that the battle rages with unprecedented violence, and is expected to last longer than any preceding engagement. There were many thrilling and spectacular feats. A notable episode was the passage of tho Isonzo near Anhovo. Here tho river is unfordable, and runs between precipitous banks two thousand feet high, resembling-the moat of a gigantic fortress The Italians crossed the river on pontoons, then threw bndges_ across and nwnnied tho east bank, and immediately scaled tho opposite mountain, all tho while under terrific artillery fire. There was another terrible struggle for important positions at Relo and Brestovizza, which are now firmly held, and may prove tho key to Herniada-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. BIG COUNTER-ATTACK HURLED BACK IN DISORDER , (Itcc. August 23, 11.30 p.m.) -London, August 22. Tho "Daily Telcraph" Roiuo correspondent states:—"The Italian attack dovolons successfully. The Austrian General, Wurm, after the first day, onCuredl to counter-attack on the Carso ] with 120 battalions; but was repulsed in disorder. Meanwhile, as the result of later operations on the Carso, the Austrian centre was broken, and the whole of tho enemy's left wing menaced. Sevoral lines of tho enemv's trenches eastward of Gorizia were destroyed. An Austrian deserter divulged the fact that a detachment of his compatriots wero hidden in a huge cavorn. Tho Italians immediately entered, and captured tho entire detachment and numerous machine-guns. Several caverns on Monte Santo and Monto San Marco collapsed, wiping out wholo battalions, lhe hglitine on Hermada Hill was terrible": Tho western counter-posts were captured 'with the bayonet.! British and Italian monitors are co-operating with the Army, and' jift'ectivcly bombarded enemy positions on tho lower Isonzo. Simultaneously Italian monitors bombed the dockyards at Trieste. An Austrian official communiciuo, dated August 22. reports: "South of Auzza' the enemy slightly drove in our troops. Thoy maintained their positions until they were completely surrounded, and then cnt their way out. Between Dersela and the Vippado River an attack failed. On the Curso, the enemy, at the cost of thousands of casualties, captured tho ruined village of Selo after two days of fighting. Wo have captured SCOO prisoners and fifty machine-guns."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Eeuter. PREPARATIONS TO EVACUATE TRIESTE. Milan, August 22. The "Corriere della Sera" slates that the Austrians aro preparing to evacuate Trieste. All tho archives and valuables from museums, churches, and libraries have gone to Vionna. The President of the Austrian Food Board has publicly admitted that Austria would ho in a desperate plight but for supplies from Rumania.
