Oats : aro not only scarce, but there are no - prospects at present of obtaining further supplies from Australia. There is a good demand for oatsheaf chaff for tho North Island,' where, owing to the amount of rain, it is required i'or feed purposes. Prime chaff is now worth £i os. to Jit 10s. per ton at country stations. There • 'lias boon a larger amount of business • done in potatoes lately with tho Auckland market, buit there is not a. largo '".quantity offering'bv growers. Potatoes are now worth 50s. to 525. 6d. at country stations. During tho last few days since ■ 'it was announced that the Australian .' boats would run on tho coast the Auckland merchants have not been so ready ' to mako further'purchases, ovidently expecting that shipments will bo-heavy ; while "tho freight is available. Tho do-, maud lor seed potutoos htus fallen off,' •" and thev are now practically unsaleable for shipment.
