Boyd, Mayor of Onehunga, and proprietor of the Oneliunga Zoo, nas charged before Mr. Eraser, S.M., that he voted at a meeting of the council on a matter in which ho had a direct or pecuniary interest, namely, tho rescind' ing of a'"by-law which virtually concerned tho existence of tho Zoo. Tho Magistrate said that defendant _ had acted, in his own interests, and insisted on. pressing Hip matter against the w-.shes. of tho majority of the councillors. Defendant wa.s convicted and fined .£3O and. costs. Lcavo to appeal was granted.
