MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND MAINTENANCE OASES. Mr.-S. E. U'Oa'rthy, S.Jt., presided at tjic Magistrate's Court, yestorday, and heard tho police and maintenance cases. Peicr M'Oarron was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for using obsecna lanftuago iu Manncia Street, and for behaving in a disorderly manner whilo drunk ho was convioted and discharged. A returned soldier named Qeorgo Griffiths was sent to Koto Hoa for twolvo months. The charge against him was that being a prohibited person he was found with liquor in his possession. Inspector Marsack explained that tho man had been helped by tho Patriotic Association, who said he was a decent enough, young fellow,' but could not bo kept away from drink. .. . '
For insobriety four first offenders were treated in tho usual lenient manner. Edward Eyopeeky was ordered to pay 2s. 6d. per week for the maintenance of eaoh of. his two ohildrcn. ■ ■ .-. . Victor Olsen was.ordered to pay'2s. 6d. per week' , towards' tho maintenance of' John Olson. . Albert Berry, who was in arrears with his maintenance payments to the amountof £4 135... was sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment, warrant not.to issue unless.applied for by complainant. •■ George':H.- Bradley,, whoso . arrears amounted to JE3 155., was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, warrant to bo issued on application of complainant. Nellio Badger proceeded against Charles Badger for separation and maintenance on the grounds of cruelty, and that defendant was a habitual inebriate. An order, was niado for separation,' and maintenance was fixedat 30s. per week;'defendant was orderod to pay costs £2 Us.
