"HONK!"

$ MOTOR. TRANSPORT PAPER. A soldier friend has sent me a copy of a newspaper whose circulation in Australia is, 1 fancy, somewhat limited (says "St. Yigeans" in the "Western Mail"). It is a trench publication, and its title is "Honk!" and its sub-titlo "Tho Voice of the Benzine Lancers." As it is issued by a. Divisional Ammunition Park Motor Transport, I assume "Honk" has reference to the sound of the horns of the motors. In the ten octavo pages of "Honk," which, by the way, has no fixed date of publication, but is "printed every sometimes," there is a good deal of eolid informative matter suitable for a young and eager soldier, and also some delightful nonsense and clever quips and "ranks. Tho editor of "Honk" is not without bis troubles, as the following editorial note seems to indicate:— "The editor distinctly discourages personal interviews with intending contributors. He is frequently accosted by members of the Supply Column bearing manuscripts, who tnke him confidentially by the buttonhole, lead him to a corner and oblige-him to sit through a recital of their more or lees inspiring writings. An editor should bo wrapped in a heavy cloud of mystery, but there's no mystery in this section except the stew!" . . . The gossip column of "Honk" has a flavour of its own. "We want to tell tho deplorable wag who put a quantity of unhealthy prunenuts in the 'Honk' letter-box as a contributiou that we didn't liko hie little joke. Tho parcel w.aa done up 6o nicely that we thought at first someone had sent us a belated Christmas present, and tho disappointment was very keen. A knnt liko that ougnt to be well cracked." "Judging by the amount of moisture that accumulates on Sergeant M'Swaine's forehead, it is quite obvious that drink goes to his head. Most room for it thei'o." "Overheard in a tent: 'What's the matter with you?' " 'There's nothing the matter with lr.e.' "'Well, you gave me a nasty look!' '"You's got a nasty look all -igtit, »ut I didn't give it to yer!'" "Honk" is a bright little paper, hnd reflects tho fine spirit of the boys who write and read it.
