THAT DOUBTFUL RESIGNATION. Tho uncertainty of the position of Hie Efficiency Hoard can not yet be comlilctely cleared up. It appears that tho letter of the board to the Government, which has been referred to as •the resignation of tho board, was not, strictly speaking, a resignation. The letter stated, in effect, that tho commissioners were not satisEed with tho reception their recommendations had had at tho hands of the Government, that they would no on to finish the work they had in hand, and that afterwards. they would have to consider their position. This was the letter on. which the Prime Minister interviewed the members of the board ami the result of the interview has already been announced. No settlement was made. This means that it is extremely probable that the commissioners will re Sign as soon as they can conveniently <lo so. THE BOARD'S RECOMMENDATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association.
