SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
Tho committee of the Sunday School Union mot in the rooms of tho Y.M.C.A. on Saturday ovening. There was a good attendance of delegates. Mr. Alexander .Johnston, president, being in the- chair. On tho motion of the president a vote of sympathy was passed with the family of the late- Mr. R. B. Dans, a former president and consistent supporter, of the union. Mr. Davis was visitor for the city schools at the time of his death. Tho Central Mission school was received a3 a member of the union. A long-ser-vice diploma was granted to Mr. W. G. Holdswortb, on the application of the Cambridge Terrace Congregational School, where Mr. Holdswc-yth had been superintendent for thirty-nine years. A letter was received from Masterton saying that they had initiated preparation classes there on the same lines as were proving so successful in ■ Wellington. Mr. Trim, superintendent of the H'utt Methodist School, was appointed to interview the other Hutt schools, to see if a joint meeting could be arranged for the presentation of prizes i and certificates, as the scholars- cannot get into the city meeting on September 3. The secretary stated that as there were more than double tho number of prize-winnera this year, as against last, there would have to be a considerable reduction in. the value of books given to the individual prize-winners. Tho Boseneath Presbyterian . School, as they have dono for some years past, forwarded their subscription, with i>. similar amount, as a donation. Reports were received from two examiners congratulating the union on the good work done by the scholars in tho examination.
