LATE BRIGADIER-GENERAL F. E: JOHNSTON
BRAVE SOLDIER WHO SCORNED DANGER. (Special from the Now Zealand Official War Correspondent.) August 7. Brigadier-General 1 ,, . E. Johnston was killed this morniug. in tho front lino near Warnelon, by a sniper's bullet, death being instantaneous, lie hod lately been in command of the infantry Reeervo Group in England, and had. only been a few days back in I'iance. Only yesterday he attondod a, conference at Divisional Headquarters, and to his old friends had expressed his delight at getting back to tho front again. Hβ was a' very bravo soldier and scorned danger. Ho has been killed on the morning of tho second anniversary of his former brigade's attack on Ghunuik Bair, on which, occasion ho fearlessly exposed himself when launching the assault. His family is ono that has not epared itself in this war, four of his brothers, one of whom was killed, having enlisted. The funeral takes place to-morrow in the cemetery where Brigadier-General Brown was buried.
