CITIZENS' CHRISTMAS GIFT FUND
Thero are none in the community who appreciate more- tho efforts made by the Mayoress and the ladies associated with her to provide comforte for our soldiers than the sports bodies. Once again tho compitteo representing tho various associations has promised to obtain adequate financial assistance and is looking to the rank and file of footballers, cricketers, golfers, athletes, tennis players, bowlers, swimmers, hockey players, etc., to enter with enthusiasm into the schemes which will be placed before them for the cause. Active assistance is wanted from one and all—men, women, and childron. It has been repeatedly pointed out that the training and esprit do corps of our playing fields have been responsible in no small degree for the great reputation gained by our men wherever thy go: it is up to tho players left behind to let their club-mates see that they are not forgotten, and that they are truly proud of this reputation. Last year's effort resulted in 20,000 parcels being dispatched, and many are the letters of thanks and appreciation which have been received. A gift parcel will remind the recipient of Borne contest or tournament in which he took part, and of the friends engaged therein. The committee hopes that all good eports will rally round to ensure success for the present effort, JE3OOO being wanted by November. A direct appeal is to bo mado to the public without delay, and sub-committees are at work on. various schemes to interest everyone.
