LAND FOR SOLDIERS
VARIOUS SUGGESTIONS. At yesterday's conference, of patriotic societies the. following remits from I?angitikei were presented for consideration :— "(1) That men-should not be placed on the land between seasons, especially in the caso of men taking up dairy lands; (2) that the money provided .should bo made available in lees time than at present; (3) that owing to tho high prices milling at present, ,(!50fl is not sufficient to start a man on the land'; (4) that the Government policy of placing returned soldiers upon highly improved land and closo to centres of settlement stould bo maintained, so far as wounded unfit men are concerned; (5) that; the Government should associato with tho Land Purchase Board one or more experienced farmers in each, district where the land is intended to be purchased for returned soldiers; (6) that when soldiers are allotted sections. ■ roads of access should first be formed, particularly in the crse of milking farms, also,: that advarces required by soldiers beyond the amount provided by the Government should be ■made by local patriotic societies under the advice of the Esecutivo Committee, and such advances up to wfilOO should be recouped by the Government to the societies when: actually made to assist the returned soldiers to cultivate their farms." ■ The conference referred all the remits to the Advisory Board.
