COMMISSION EXTENDED

MILITARY CENSORSHIP

The commission recently set up to inquire into certain charges against officers of the Post Office at Auckland iias been extended. The powers of tho commission arc extended to inelmlo the power to inquire: (a) Whether correspondence addressed to Post Offiec box No. 912 at Auckland lias been corruptly or improperly suppressed or detained by the ofiicers of tlio Post Oflicc. (h) On what grounds military censorship has been established over the correspondence of the persons using the said Post Oflico box. His Excellency's warrant, proceeds:— "I do hereby further direot and declare that nothing in the said warrant of .Tilly 23, 1917, or in this present warrant shall so operate or bo so construed as to i-.u----thorise any inquiry into tho establishment, organisation, authority, or practice of the system of military censorship existing in this Dominion during the present war save so far as any such matters, being relevant to tho inquiry authorised by the said warrants may be voluntarily and with due authority disclosed by officers of the said censorship in the course of that inquiry, and save also the inquiry hereinbefore expressly authorised as to the grounds on which such military censorship has been established over tne correspondence of the persons using the Post Office box aforesaid."
