Dispatches from Rome state that tlio Pope has suggested to all belligerents the restoration of Belgium, Serbia, ami Rumania, and a "poacoful solution" of the problems concerning Alsace-Lorraine, the Trcntino, Trieste, and Poland—Aus.N.Z. August IS, 8.35 p.m.) Rome, Augurt 14. 1 The Pope's proposals also suggest the formation of a Supreme Court of Arbitration- for the solution of disputes; no annexations nor indemnities, except in particular cases, as, for instance, Belgium, and tho same with the French and Serbian regions; the solution of Alsace-Lorraine, tho Trentino, and Trieste according lo tho aspirations ol their peoples; tho restoration of the ancient Kingdom of Poland, Belgium, and the occupied French departments, in exchange for tlie Gorman colonies.—Renter. Tho Papal Secretary, Monsignor Gasparri, is interviewing many of tho diplomats. Tho Pope's apeapl was addressed also to neutral countries. Regarding the Pope's proposal, it is authoritatively announced that the United States is willing to listen to a bonafide peaco suggestion only if it will ensure tho attainment of America's objects in entering tho war. It is not believed that tho Pope will hasten the .end of the conflict. Diplomatic quarters are predicting peace beforo tho end of twelve months.—Aus.-.Z. Cable Assn.
