KARORI BOROUGH
[ MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting of the Knnri Borough Council was held Inst evening. The Mayor (Mr. B. G. H. Bum) pre Rided. The councillors present were R. I.' Tiligey, J. W. Henderson, A\ Hamilton, W. G. Bradnock. H. E. Dryden, H. H. Flanagan, and W. Skegg. i The rates struck by tho council for the current year were as follow: —General rate oil ,£286,978 at 2Jd. in the <£, ,£2959 7s. Id.; Hospital and Charitable Aid rate on capital value of .£488,755, at one-fifth of a penny, ,£407 ss. 7d.; special rate No. 1, on. unimproved value, ,£4M,511, at two twenty-fifths of a penny, •iClfia 10s.; special rates Nos. 2 and 3, cn unimproved value, at one twenty-fifth of a penny each, ,£B2 15s. each; special rate No. 4, loan of J525.100 for road widening, on unimproved value, at 6ixty-sev?n-one-hundreths of a penny. XI3BG Is. 105.; special rats No. 5, for loan cf ,£6900, on unimproved value, at nineteenone hundredths of a penny, ,£393 Is. 5d.; snecial fate No. G, on unimproved value, J3295.841, at one-ninth of a penny, 19s. 3d. j special rate No. 7, on unimproved value .£280,978, at one and seventeen one-hundredths of a penny, .£1399 os. +d. The rates show a reduction as compared with last year. Thus the rates on ifilflO capital value and .£IOO unimproved value average ,£2 Is. £d„ as against .£2 7s. 7d. last year. On Northland property, on iIOO unimproved value, the total is Bs. Gd.. against 14s. 3d. The rates are estimated to produce in tho aggregate .£4053 Bs. sd. The estimates of receipts and expenditure for 1917-18 show that the expenditure will approximate to ,£3819 3s. Bd., and the receipts are expected to "all short of this amount by 18s. sd.
The estimates were dealt with in mittee.
The Napier Borough Council wrote stating that the following resolution had been passed: "That having regard to the fact that evervthing points to a further increase in the cost of living, this ■council is of opinion that the time has arrived when, in the interests of the neople, the Government should take over the control of the fowl supply of tho country, and this council urges all other local bodies to endorse this resolution, and direct that copies of sanio bo sent to every member of (he Cabinet." Tho letter was received. • '
