HEMP AND TOW GRADING
' The following return showing Hie quantities of hoiup, tow, and stripper slips graded at tlio ports of the Dominion dur'ing July lias boon prepared by the Department of Agriculture:— " The totali number of bales of hemp graded was.S3s7, as compared with 10,395 'for tlio corresponding period of Inst year, a decrease of 2038 hales. For, tho twelve, months ended July. 31 the number of bales graded was ' 146,871, as compared with 145,0i!6 for (be previous twelve months, a decrease of 1152 bales. "-Dnrinjj.ithe month 2314 bales of tow were dealt with a.s compared with 3110 for tho corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 801 bales. For tho twelve months ended J-ulv 31, the number of bales graded was 36,838, as compared with 40,761 for the previous twelve mouths, a decrcaso of 4063 bales. During the month the number of bales of stripper slips graded was 48, as compared with 449 for tho corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 401 bales. For tho twelve months ended July 31, Ml 7, tho number of bales graded was 3750, as compared with 7140 for the previous twelvo months, a decrease of zm bales. ' Sheet steel is becoming 'scarcer and scarcer, and since it is used in the manufacture of tho famous Victor Vat, the makers are dubious as to whether the season's orders can be filled.
