Sir,—l notice a writer, "XXXX," in vour issue of to-day, endeavours to belittle the Rev. J. Dawson's opinion onthe beer duty, and infers there is no. need to be concerned about a liquid thebest part of which is water v However, beer combined with other .intoxicating liquors the best par of which is war produced 13,384 convictions for drunkenness in 1915, and has a similar crop annually, besides beiuff the cause of muc other crime, many accidents, and much P sSeTy "XXXX" knows that a fe* grains of arsenic, strychnine, prussw Sw"or other poison.in many times m much water would, if drunk, be very* fatal.
