ASSAULT AND ROBBERY

;- By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, August 9. ■At the Supreme Court, after three days' trial, William Henry Dunphy was found guilty of assault on a Chinaman at Greymouth and robbing him of <£130. Accused's counsel said Dunphy was 22 years of age, and had twice enlisted, but had been brought back by his mother on each occasion. Just previous to the offence he had been medically examined and was going into camp. Dunphy strenuously denied having committed the offence. The Crown Prosecutor said Dunphy's trouble was attributed to idleness, and ho had also had a good deal of money to spend. Mr. Justice Denniston committed Dunphy for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding three years.
