THE LATE CAPTAIN BELL
MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. It is not generally known, though reference was niado to tho subject in the legislative Council ou Wednesday by the «on. 0. Samuol, that tho lata Captain ,\\. 11. D. Bell was specially mentioned in dispatches for the very valuable work flie did at Samoa. Colonel Logan, Administrator of Samoa, in one of liis dispatches referred to Captain Bell's services in the following highly complimentary terms:— ■ Captain W. H. D. Bell, my orderly oEcor, is returning to New Zealand by tho s.s. Navua. Ho is particularly anxious to proceed to Europe, and I have consented to his leaving, as I am of opinion that his presence in Wellington temporarily will be valuable, as he is in my confidence, and can mako clear any points which have been left obscure in my dispatches, and on which Your Excellency may require further information. Captain Boll's. services have been of the greatest value to me, as lie has taken tho organisation of tho Civil Service off my hands, and left me freo to devote more' time to Hie native question. The manner in which ho has carried out his work is beyond' praise, and tho successful working of the service is duo to his Sbilicy orgivniser. Captain Bell also won recognition for Oiis services with tho Imperial Forces, tieing twice mentioned in dispatches.
