Lowe, manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, has been advised from his Head Office in Sydney that Mr. Richard Teece, late general manager for tho society, has been appointed a director of the principal board in place of the late Hon. K E. Winchcombc, M.L.C., who met his death by exposure after the loss of the P. and 0. steamer Mongolia, ou which he was a. passenger. A Press Association messago from, Auckland announces the death of Mrs. Margaret Jacksou, who had reached tho ago of 101 yvyrs and four months. Mr. Moir leave.? a widow and two children. Mrs. M. Edwards, of Pnlmcrslon rforth, lias been advised that her son, Trooper S. G. Edwards, died of wounds on July .'lO in Fraucc. Before enlisting Trooper Edwards was employed in tho Palmerston Railway P/epartment, and was highly respected by all who knew him. He was only 20 years of age. An elder son, Cecil, is also in tho firing lino. The Rev. Macdonnld Asplund has been elected president, and I he Rev. .1. if. riaslam lion, secretary, of the l'alniersiou North Ministers' Association for the ensuing Joar.

Tho name of Major F. B. Knyvett, D.5.0., R.F.A. (Auckland), appeared in the list of wounded a few days ago. He was gas-poisoned, and has been in hoa. pital at Boulogne, but official intimation has been received that ho has beeu discharged from hospital fit for duty, and has returned to his division. Major Knyvett had lost a section of his men, and was helping to get the wounded, to a dressing: station when a gas-shell exploded at his feet. The men who were' with him have since died from the effects, of the gas, so Major Knyvett had a very narrow escape. Jlo has now l>een five times wounded—four times in France and once in South Africa. In addition to the D.S.O. conferred on the occasion of tho King's Birthday, Major Knyvett has twico been mentioned in dispatches. Mr J P. Lomax. of Takapau. Hawke's Bay, is visiting; Wellington for a fewdays. Corporal P. C. Dwyer, who has been in camp for some months past, JeK on Wednesday to spend a few days leave at his home in Christchurch.
