THE WEATHER
« FORECAST AND SUMMARY AT 4 P.M. YESTERDAY. Present indications are for moderate to strong south-east to southwesterly winds northward of Farewell Suit and jKalkoura, and variable breezes, with ' freshening northcrlies arevailing elsewhere. Expect unsettled and showery conditions in tho North and East Coast districts, and increasing cloudiness elsuwhere. Barometer rising temporarily int ho north, but falling in tho south. A cyclonic disturbance is now probably centred about the Kcrmadccs. Strong southeasterly winds have ruled in tho north, with considerable rain in the North and East Coast districts of the North Island, but the weather has improved to-day. The barometer rose fast in the north during the night, but has fallen steadily elsewhere. D. 0 BATES. Meteorological Office, Wellington, August 9. 1917. DISTRICT REPORTS.
