"VIOLET DAY"
TO-MORROW'S SPECIAL EFFORT.
The commercial 'travellers of Wellington have responded characteristically to* the call for assistance from the committee of the Red Cross Society. No stone, has been left unturned to make a bigsuccess of the whole proceedings to-mor-row. Special attractions are announced, including a concert party on a decorated!, lorry, at which Mr. Barry Lupnio, and. members of the "Very Good Eddie" Company, and best local amateurs, will assist. A procession, headed by Tretttlhani , . Band, will leave Lambton Station at: 11 o'clock. One of the novelties of the. day will be a coffee stall known as: "Cafe de Stand Up." This will be conducted by the lady friends of the Travellers' Association. Tea, coffee, sandwiches,, pies, and delicatessen of all kinds will l>e. provided, and no doubt this will be well patronised. An auction sale of trimmed hats, donated by leading firms, will l>o conducted by Mr. Barry Lupino at 3.30 at the corner of Lambton Quay and. Brandon Street. A number of Native* are journeying from the Manawatu to. assist, and various graceful Native* dances will be performed in different parts of the city. In oruer to show appreciation of ourNew Zealand heroes, a number of ladira: are presenting specially-decorated baskets, in honour of the following :-BrigadierGeneral" Freyberg, V.C.; Captain Brandon, D.5.0., M.C.; Captain S. A. Atkinson, killed in action; Lieutenant W.i.. Doughty, killed in action; Serf*mt Bassett V.C.; Corporal Frickleton, V.C.; Rifleman Cooke, V.C.; Rifleman Browne, V.C.; Sergeant J. Lloyd, prisoner of war in Germany. , The travellers have always been sro> ce-sful in their patriotic appeals, and a ready response is expected to-morrow to the calls made upon the generosity ot the Wellington public.
I AN APPEAL Sir—To-iKprrow (Friday) is Violet Day for our sick ami wounded soldiers. Again we appeal and .teg for every flower to ennble us to send .a large sum of money for those we honour W<> much, and who for us are sick and sneering-far from homo and loved ones.
