STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTUBE. (Rec. August 8, 5.15 p.m.) London, August 7. Iα the House of Commons Mr. Prothero (Minister of Agriculture) stated that amillion acre 3 had be«n. added to the-area of land under corn and potato oultivation. Assuming that 600,000 acres of tins area, produced the essential grains, sufficient tonnage would be freed to bring Britain in the entire supply of last year s American cotton. Tiis meant security for manufacturing materials- to the value ol thirty millions- annually, which would mean between six and eeven. millions in wages for the operatives.-Heuter.
