The competition of cheap flour from Australia, is reported to be causing embarrassment to he South Island flourmillers, especially as the price at which the Government bought wheat in Australia precludes all possibility of successful competition with the imported (lour. These statements were made in the. House of Representatives yesterday bv Sir. D. Buddo, andhe asked the Prime Minister whether the Government proposed to take action in tlie matter. It seemed to him that the case was ono for urgent action by the. Board of Tr»''i\ The Prime Minister said that the Government was not neglecting the matter, and it would be dealt with at the next meeting 'of Cabinet. Tn Australia there was on hand 6,000.000 tons of wheat, and soon another harvest would be coming in. Owing to the lack of ship? it was imnossible to fret the wheat to England, and the New Zealand market was being tried for their flour. It was hard to complain about a low price for flow, but owing to +I'e1 'e lnw price of Australian flour our mills were unablo to compete with it.
