MASS MEETING OF STRIKERS

■ LABOUR POLITICS AT WORK. (Rec,. August 7, 1.55 a.m.) Sydney, August G. A mass meeting of the Amalgamated Railway and Tramways' Service Association and Tramways Employees' Union declared in favour of striking.. Political significance has been added to the situation by tho receipt of a circular-letter to tho unions calling a meeting qn Tuesday fo discuss the Labour recommendations to the Anti-conscription Congress, and decide what steps should be taken, in that connection, thus con-ih-ming the opinion of responsible public men that the object of tlio unions is to challenge tho supremacy of tho Stato and the Commonwealth Governments. Shipping is already feeling the effects. A steamer which is loading for New Zealand will leave short of cargo.—Press Assn.
