MAGISTRATE'S COURT
A short sitting ol' the Magistrate's Court was held on Saturday morning, 'Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., boiiig on the Bench. For iusobrioty, Mary JCMdnus, an old offender,' was convicted and fined £3. in. default seven days' limprisonmcnt. ThomasMoras, against whom there was a previous conviction, was fine(l 205., in the alternative' to serve seven days in gaol. One first offender was filled IDS'., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and another 205.;. in default 18 hours' imprisonment. ■ = Walter John . Wood was charged with being an idle and tUsorderly person in that he wasfound begging alms in Lambton Quay. Tho accused accosted two returned soldiers and made himself a nuisance to them by nersisting in begging for money. He was ultimately handed over to a constable. Tho accused, who had a record of previous conviction!, was sentenced to three montths' imprisonment.
