Limited, report having held their usual sale in the ttanganui yards on August 1, when they offered a full yarding of sheep and a small one of cattle to a good attendance of buyers. Competition for good hoggets and good wethers was very brisk, but medium hoggets, wethers, and breeding ewes met with a, very poor reception. Cattle, were inclined to be neglected. Stock Department), Dannevirke, report having held one of the most successful clearing sales of dairy 6tock ever held in the district ?& Matatera. on Thursday, on acco'unt Air. L. 0. Rathbone: As Mr. Rathbone has sold his dairy farm the offering consisted of purebred and grade Holstein cattle, and also' a fair number of Shorthorn and Jersey-cross cows. Competition was exceptionally keen throughout for all high-grade Holsteins, diary cows of this breed selling at up to £32 10s. per head-this latter prico the highest, tho auctioneers believe, ever paid in this part of the district for a grade cow of any breed. The purchaser, Mr. R. J. Sexton, of Woodvillo, also secured several good cows at prices ranging as high as £23 10s.; Mr. A, S. Crowe, of the same district, added some excellent grades to his herd,-paying-os high as £24 for good sorts. . The herd of 49 cows made tho satisfactory average of £15 Is: per head. The 10 grade Holstein springing heifers (rising two years) were particularly good, o.nd elicited the. keenest competition of tho solo. The prices ranged from £15 10s. to £27 65., the line averaging £19 19s. 6d. per head.: Grade.Holstein yearling lioifcrs sold at from £6 Is. to £9 10s. per bead, and the steers £i 3s. On Tuesday wo held a sale of dairy stock on' account Mr. Harry Hardy, Taikorea. There was a large attendance, and, the herd being ah-exceptionally good .lot, competition was keen, with the result that we have to roport, one of the most successful dairy sales of the soason. The herd of 47 cows made an average of £15, 7 springine heifers averaged £10 55., Yearling' heifers, £5. The best prices for early cows-£l7, £17 55.. £17 10s., £18, £18 55., £19 10s., £19 165., £20,' £20 'ss„ £21; breeding sows,'£2 10s.; spring drays,-£22 ss. and £18.
