MILK SUPPLY

Sir —Regarding the vexed question of the meeting in the Town Hall on Tuesday last/ I wish to say that the- invitation to myself conveyed no impression that anything of an executive character directly or indirectly would take place under any circumstances. The intention outlined, to me was .that a better rapproc'hement was desired, and, as a means to .that end, a better knowledge of the workings on the part of the Mayor and his colleagues, who were entering into ' responsibilities they felt they knew 100 little about, was essential, and this could be. best.' achieved by a little informal friendly meeting between the principals. As a matter of courtesy, the chairman of the Milk Committee was included, aii'l this proved the discordant elemeut. How much worse would it have been if the lex tations of the so-called Vendors' Association hud got a cut in also. As it happened they were not, and therefore the Mayor got what lie was looking lor—a lot of information—and the chairman of the' committee got what he never expected—a lesson in humility.. If tho took he carries under his arm so much' were in his head more he would not have to go to the Town Hall to learn humility. When small we were taught that the first step to knowledge is humility, and Councillor Wright has a long way to go before he will have acquired Hie first step sufficiently to make much progress with the further stages. The' Mayor began the meeting with humility and gained largely in formr.tiveuess— Councillor Wright's Humility came only at the finish, and therefore his gain was uot so great. However, that his eyes have been opened ever so little is something to be thankful for.—l am, etc., • HENRY UODLTCY.
