RUSSIAN OUTLOOK NO BETTER
'■'' CZERNOWITZ' EVACUATED BRITISH RECOVER LOST GROUND 'LLOYD GEORGE'S CHALLENGE TO GERMANY -
Tho Russian outlook is no brighter. M. Koronsky, the one man whom all parties trust, has resigned, but his resignation has not teen accepted. M. Tcheraoff, Minister for Agriculture, has also resigned. At the front, matters in one sonso are worse, and in another sense they are hotter. Tho Russians have boon compelled to evacuate Czornowitz, the capital of Bukowina —which, states a message from Amsterdam, has changed hands no fewer than six times—and the onomy is making the most of this opportunity for waving flags and firing guns in the warweary cities of their Fatherland. On the other side- of tho picture there is a ray of hope. Tho Russians aro fighting with great vigour and determination, and tho retreat lias become an organised moT-oment. liven the Austrian war correspondents nro impressed with tho improvement in tho Russian morale, for they warn their readers not to expect too much, on account of the enemy's increasod powers of resistance and tho difficulties of the advance. 'In the Wost, tho British havo recovered tho advanced positions from which they were driven by tho German coun-ter-attacks that followed tho blow on. the Ypres front. St. Julien is again in our possession, while- our former lino at Monchy-10-Prieux has been re-established.' ' The .Turks are reported to bo organising, under von Falkenhayn, for an attempt to retake Bagdad. In a stirring war anniversary speech in London, Mr. Lloyd. George has told tho Germans in the - plainest language what they iuust do before the Allies, will oven,--as-sent to a discussion on peace terms. They must, he says, learn to pronounce the word "restoration" without stuttering.
