MILITARY SERVICE BOARD
$ , YESTERDAY'S APPEALS. The Third Wellington Military Service Board sat in Wellington yesterday. Mr. H. J. Beswick presided, and with him were Mr. M. J. Mack and Mr. O'L. Considino. Captain. P. Baldwin appeared for the military. Appeals made by the Commissioner of Police for tho exemption of a number of policemen were adjourned sino die. Tho Chief Clerk of the Post and Telegraph Department asked the board to exempt Sigwart J. W. Harris, wireless operator, Awanui, Auckland. The board granted an adjournment siuo die. Application was also made for the exemption of Cecil Stanton Lechner, printer, of Blair Street. The Chief Clerk stated that Lechner printed telegraph delivery forms for 'the Department. Ho had the only machine for the purpose, and he could not easily bo replaced by another operator. Tho board adjourned tho case for a month, and .it the end of that time it will be further considered. The appeals' of Henry Francis HaTtley. and Robert Millington, wireless tele,graphi6ts employed on transports, were adjourned sine die. Robert C. Jamicson, bootmaker, of Aurora Terrace, stated that four of his •brothers had enlisted. One had been killed. Appellant himself had epent ■nine months with the advance party at Samoa. He asked for exemption on the groundof unduo hardship. The case waa adjourned for three- months. William Reed Lethbridge stated that ho was not a First Division man, as he had married in April, 1909. His appeal was allowed: Tho board dismissed tho appeal of XJunicl Aloxander M'Lean, shearer and station hand, Rnanui, and ordered M'Lean to ro into camp on August 21. The board had no recommendation to make in the case of Henry Dewhirst, pig slaughterman, Potone. Kenneth Bernard Cudby, chairmaker, Seatoun, was allowed leave till August 22. Private William Hodgson, a voluntary recruit belonging to tho 29tli Reinforcements, asked for temporary exemption for domestic reasons. Ho was grantod leave till October 1. , Tho board granted an adjournment eino die in the case of Ccdrick Stanton Hicks, a Duncdin medical student, appealed for by tho Inspector-General of Hospitals. .Tamea Charles Gray and Percy Davey, both marine engineers, had their appeals adjourned Biro tlio. Tht> Tjparrt adjourned its sittings sine die.
