WAR ANNIVERSARY TO-DAY. is tho third anniversary of the declaration of war by England" against Germany. Three years ngo to-day the German guns wero battering to dust the fortifications of Liege, and tho Belgian debacle,had commenced. The cry of the anguished'*littlo people* had beon heard across tlio English Channel, and England had replied as only England could—by a quick declaration of war against the nation which had so grossly and unpardon"ably broken a sacred national treaty, and was then trampling one of the smallest natione under-heel in order to stranglo Franco and thiottlo England, and so in 'ono desperate conscienceless throw bid for a world dictatorship. llow that bid failed; how tho forces of Germany wero driven back to the Marno and kept there; howihalf tho world has risen against Germany is now history. To mark the anniversary a meeting is to be held in tho Town Ifall this evening, when a resolution will bo passed and speeches appropriate to the occasion will be made by tho Prime Minister, Sir 'Joseph Ward, Sir Jaintw Allen, and tho Mayor (Mr. -J. P. Luke), Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., and Councillor M. F. 'Luckie.

' A Methodist united scrvico will be held in" tho Wesley Church, Tarannki Street, this evening, "in memory of tho fallen, and a tribute to over 6000 New Zealand Methodists who havo joined the Forces." Addresses will be given by military chaplains. An intercessory sarvieo will bo held in the Cambridge 'Terrace Church at 3.3fl p.m. to-day. The Congregational Churches ■will combino for tho service, which will ■be a public one.
