"Violet Day." At d sub-coniniilteo meeting in connection with Violet Day, held on Wednesday, a suggestion was mado that a lied Cross self-denial week bo worked into tho schouie. Whilo admitting tho idea was au excollent one, it was agreed that Violet Day (August 10) was too near to work lip tho movement. Howevor, it was docided to adopt tho scheme in connection with tho "Our Day" appeal, subject to tho approval of the committee for that day. Many promises of flowers and help linvo como froui people and places for Violot Day, and tho arrangements aro very complete. Tho procession of decorated handcarts, which will leave the flower depot at 8 o'clock on I'riday morning, should ho a very pretty one. It is expected that tho carts will bo londed with flowers, und flower-sellers, with their carriers suspended with violet ribbons, will accompany the carts to their various stands. So many women have como forward to help that no moro names for tho present can bo taken. If those who havo not been placed as ilower-sellcrs or otherwise will kindly come to the depot on Violet Day and give their services as tho committee may desire, they will'he most wolcome.

The Late Mrs. D. Buick, Touching the death of the late Mrs. D. Buick, the "Manawatu Standard" says:— "Tho deceased lady was born in Nolson sixly-fivo years-.ago, and was a daughter of Mr. Isaac Mason Hill, a well-known hardware merchant in those days. and Mr. Buiok wero married in 3870 and settled in tho Hutt, where the latter book over his father's farm, known as Greonvalo. A great deal of interest was manifested in tho various knds of garments, bandages, and hospital equipment ill .general, ami tho visitors expressed themselves as. being astonished at tho amount of work which they saw was being done ftl; the dopot.
