FOR CONSPICUOUS GALLANTRY AWARDED THE/.V.C. ; , — ' (Rec. August 3, 1.20 a.m.) London, August 2. The Victoria Cross has. been awarded to a. New Zealander, Lance-Corporal Samuel Fricklettoii, who, although wounded while the attackers were checked under tho heavy fire of 'the enemy, dashed ahead of his section, pushed into the barrage, and personally hombed and destroyed a machine-gun which was earning heavy casualties. He then attacked a 6econd machine-gun, killing the whole crew of twelve, and undoubtedly saved his own and other units from the severest casualties. His magnificent courage ensured the capture of the objective. Frickletton. was severely, wounded while his section was consolidating its position.
