FRENCH CLUB
The I'roncli Club provided a varied programme at its meeting on Wednesday flight. Tho first itom was a paper by Mrs. Johnso.i describing a journsy through Prance by way of Dieppe, Rouon, and Paris to Bordeaux. Jliss Mead gave an interesting recilation, "Lc Vase Brisc," 'Mr: Lattey read one of "Les Lcttres de mon Moulin" by Alphonse Daudet. The president, Captain Barclay, then gave a short paper dealing wifch-jtlie niceties of tho French language. Finally. Mi'. Oooke dealt with New Caledonia, explaining that ho had chosen that subject as being of interest on account of tho French soldiers wlio are now in Wellington, having recently visited their homes in that island. He compared it with New Zealand, said it was about ono-sixth tho sizo of - tho North Island, and that, like New Zealand, it was veiy mountainous, and was volcanic in its origin. By this time, as the hour was late, tho Test of his paper had to bo postponed. The club resolved for the rest of tho season to hold its meetings on Thursday nights.
