The Avondale Stakes and the Avondale Guineas will eacli have a stake of £525 next year. At present they are worth £300. News from Oama.ru states that Kilbroney's list- is full. This is not ourprtaing considering the succoss of his stock last season Jjotli hero niyl in Australia. The Yaldhurst team for Australia consists of Tho Toff, whoso special mission will be the wcight-for-ago racea at Kandwick, Itcd Hock, Ample, ami l'ertonn, who will contest minor handicaps, Plymouth the steeplechaso at ltaiid'ivick, and Molco (Martian—Pormloss), and lALmonor (Boniforni—Oassock). Tho two last mentioned are two-yoar-old colts, and aro engaged in. tho Breeders' Plate. It is quite on tho cards that Mr. G. L. Stead will bo back in Sydney in time for tho A.J.O. meeting, and after witnessing his horses' efforts there .he will decide whether the team is to go on to Melbourne or return for tho New Kcaland Cup meeting. , Gluepot goes south, to-night, and will contest the Grand National Steeplechaso on August 16. The Aucklandcr is no stranger to tho Kiccarton fences, as ho was successful in,tho Enlicld Steeplechase twelve months ago. ' On that tecasion Ikowai was runner-up, and Nita was in third placo. Tho last-named was within two pounds of tho winner, but there is now 261b. between them, which 'shouldgive the Hawera mare si| chance, as, 6lio is a great fencor, and is' generally found running on at tho end of her races. Under the minimum should shape well.

lady Penury has been working well at Ellerslie, and she is being shippedjpouth to-mowow to fulfil her engagement in tho Winter Oup. Her owner has been given every inducement to send her south, and on her form with Kauri King at Gisborno the chestnut mare seems, to be more than t possibility. ' Hurdle riders A. J. M'Flinn and .Jc Henderion, both of whom havo been indisposed of late, are now better, and are making engagements to rido at Eiocarton. M'Flinn will be on Sir Fisher; and Henderson ~will steer Gluepot and- Marconi. Gisborno exohanges state that it is doubtful if Fagot and Master Timi will be laken south for the C.J.O. National Mooting. The Auckland horseman W. Ryan intcfids being present at the 0.J.0. National Meeting, and. will leavo for the south about tho end of the week. In order not to lose its classic events, the Duncdin Stakes and Guineas, tho committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club have decided' to take one day off tho summer meeting and one day off the autumn meeting, which will enablo them to raco on two days in tho spring. A sensational incident was provided at Canning Park, Western Australia, 'last month. Just as the starter ordered tho field to line up for tho First Class Hate, ono of the jockeys, C. T. Jackson, called out, "Hold, on, sir!" The starter noticed that the ridor appeared to be faint, and quickly in attendance, but Jackson died lifted him from his horse.
