.I'lilY.VlE HOTELS, HESTAUIUNTS, AND TliA-ROOJIS. The Conciliation Coircil yesterday considered the Private Hotelsj Restaurant.?, nnd Tearooms Dispute. The Commissioner, Mr. W. H. Hngger. presided. The assessors were: Jfessrs. F. Godher, G. H-ussell, 'and W. H. Bird for the employer; Messrs. H. O'Malkv and ll'Cuskey for the Private Holpl :ind Itestnu-i-nnt Workers' Union. Sir. W. A. Orenfell appeared as agent for the employers, and' Mr. E. Kennedy for the union. The union cliiimed generally an advance of 55.. to 10s. u week en the wages in the present, award. For private hotels and restaurants the rates varied from £5 for chef to <£1 15s. for pnntrymaids and others, and for dining-room employees from £2 15s. for head waiter to -tl 7s. 6d. for pantrymaid., Another claim was for two week's holiday on full pay in each year. Application was made for, the exemption of a number of persons cited us private hotelkeepers, and claiming to 1)0 boardinghouse-keepers. The union assessors claimed that these people were now doing a private hotel business. The Commissioner decided to leave the matter for (ho decision o f the Arbitration Court, except where the Court had previously exempted the parties. The parties to the dispute came to no definite agreement, but the assessors are again to meet in private conference. ]f they come to any decision, they.will submit their proposals to the employers , nnd the union.
