The Union Company's etcamev Mapourika, which has been undergoiug an extensive overhaul at the Patent Slip Wharf, was recommissioned yesterday in order to re-enter the Wellington-Nelson-West Coast service. She is at present fixed to sail from here at 9 o'clock to-uight for Nelsdn, Wcst 7 ' port, and Greymouth, and will arrive back on Saturday. Picton will be omitted from the ports of call on both ways. This service will be maintained for one month in order that the Union Company may judge whether the support given to the service sufficiently warrants keeping the Jlapourika in the West Coast trade. Jt is now some months since a Union Company's nasscnger si earner left here for the West Coast. CALM AND BREEZE LATE. The Canterbury Shipping Company's strainers Culm and Breeze have been delayed for a day. The Culm arrived last night from Onehungu, and will aail to-day for Jiyltelton. Thuani, Oamaru, and Duiiedin. The Breeze, whio.li was delayed for nine hours at Port Chalmers on Saturday, arrived at Timaru yesterday, and left again at 3.15 p.m. for Lyttelton. The steamer was due here to-day, hut she will when, after taking on hoard cargo, she will sail for Wanganui. SALE OF THE KAEO. The once large fleet of loually-owncd sailing vessels trading in and out of Auckland has been further depleted by the sale of the auxiliary schooner Kaeo for the Eastern Pacific intcr-islaud trade, says the "Herald." The Kaeo, which has been purchased by S. It. Mriwell and Co.. Auckland, wan built at tfhqngaroa in 1905 for Messrs. John Henry Skinner and Co., and has been engaged in the. trade between Auckland and the Kast Coast ever since. She. is a wooden vessel of 134 tons cross, aud is 408f(.. long. For some time, owing to so many sailing vessels having been fiold, she has been the largest vessel owned here, but the competition of steamers has rendered her use in the 'East Coast trade unprofitable. it is esp/rlert that the. Hinrinoa will leave Wellington ou Thursday for her round trip of the South Island lighthouses.

JJAEAWA BAKBOUND. The Northern Company's steamer llarawa was bnrbouud at Onchunea yesterday, and will not, bo able to sail for New Plymouth until to-day. The vessel will leave the latter port to-morrow, arriving at Onehunga on. Thursday. She will leave the samo day in her usual running. HAWKBA SAILS FOB LYTTULTON. The Hawera sailed foKLyttelton at 3.15" p.m. yesterday to undergo repairs on the Patent Slip there. The Harbour Board's dlror (Jtr. .August Hans) on Saturday succeeded in caulking, the leak in the vessel. Working nearly nil day. Mr. Hans caulked the leak, covered it with wood, and then with copper. It was necessary to tcninorarlly repair the vessel in order to permit her sailing to Lyttelton. MESS-TABLE GOSSIIV Captain S. C. Jackson, master of the Hawera. signed off that vessel yesterday, and Jtr. A. M'Kinnon has taken his place. Mr. J. J- Smith has signed on as flret mate in place of Mr. M'Kinnon. Captain T. B. Sewell hae taken over the command of the Mapourika. which was recommiseloned at Wellington yesterday. Mr. C. D. M'Kinley has signed on as chief officer. „ The Himitungi left last nieht for Timaru and Lyttelton. She is due back on Thursday, aud will sail direct, on Friday for Owenga, Chatham Islands. To Kohau is fitted with two 60 h.p. engines, and has a capacity for about 90,000 ft. of timber. Captain M'Nab, late of the Te Aroha, has been given command of the new veB8(:l. The Rosamond, bound to Westport from Napier, passed the Heads at 3.30 a.m. yesUrday. Tho ketch Kereru left Timaru at 9.15 a.m. yesterday with a cargo of produce for Gisborne and Auckland. No word had been received up to last night about the sailing of the Kamo from Greymouth. The collier was expected to arrive yesterday, but the- weather is bad at Westport and Greymouth. so it is probable that, there was no work at either of those ports yesterday. The Tainui will be beached at Evans Bay to-day to undergo repairs by Messrs. Cable and Co. A spare tail-shaft has ar- . rived from Wanganui, and the new solid four-blade propeller is to be finished tomorrow night. They will be fitted into position on Thursday morning, and if there is no hitch in the work the Tainui will spjl for Lyttelton on Thursday nicht with a cargo of benzine The foow Eunice is expected to arrive here on Monday nest aud to sail on Hie return trip on the following Wednesday.
