BEGULAU. MEETING. The School Committees' Association mot last evening. Mr. W. E. Fuller oo "cupied the chair. •> Tlie secretary oF tho Education Board wrote regarding various matters. So far as handwriting was concerned, lie was instructed by the board to state that, samples submitted to a meeting: appeared to negative the opinion' that writing was unsatisfactory in all schools: 'With regard to uniformity of school books, the hoard wished him .to point out that the matter was one which could be arranged throughout the Dominion only by general regulation under the Act, and the board understood that the Minister .had expressed the opinion that the "time was not opportune for dealing with the matter. In connection with military service, Hip board had taken the view that it should place no obstacle in the way of military service by men of the First Division. It had, however, reached the conclusion that iintil the First Division was exhausted the board should strongly appeal against teachers, of. the Second Division 'being taken for military service. The board intended to give further consideration to tho matter of school supplies, stationer?', etc. Mr. A. J. White, of the Brooklyn School Committee, wrote re free school requisites. Ho regretted .that the association had decided to shelve tho question until after the war.—The association ! resolved that the. matter should be reopened. Newtown, Knrori, and Island Bay Committees were admitted to membership of the association.
