FRUIT-GROWING DISTRICTS

A KEPLY TO MR. MOIUTZSON. Sir,—A copy of a paragraph appearing under the heading of "A Challenge," Aew Zealand Apple Show, written by Air. A. Moritzson, of Dunedin, has been forwarded to me. From it anyone not acquainted with the facts would cont'dol' Otago was everywhere, the rest of New Zealand nowhere in particular, and Auckland at the bottom of the list. How Mr. Moritzson gets at his points is more than I can tell. He says in his totals: Otago, 242J points; Auckland, 6; The fact is that Auckland reared 90 points for her district display alone. If he is referring to the plato exhibit, this is most unfair, as, naturally, the show being neld in Dnnedin, the bulk of the plato stuff was exhibited by Otngo growers. Auckland's plato stuff was limited to less than one dozen elnsses out of these few class entries, Auckland exhibitors won two "first" and several "highly commended" and "commended" cards, which is a record that any district may well be proud of. The very fnot that Auckland tied for first place in tho great district exhibit with 98 points out of a, possible, 100, and that they won for commercial value the full number of points, 35, prove that whatever the fruitgrowing possibility of Otago, Auckland cancertainly hold her own with the best that can be produced anywhere else. .Next, season tho annual national show mil be held in Auckland, when, in all probability, the northern growers will put in a largo proportion of fruit entries, as the show will be held nearer home. Thanking you—l am, etc., GEO. A. GREEN, Hon.' Sec. Auckland Exeeutivo National Patriotic Fruit Show, 1517. Auckland, July 12.
