Violet Day in Christchurch. A Violet l)ay is being organised in Christchurch, the date on which it is to 1» hold being fixed for August 22. The funds are to he divided between' tto Lady Liverpool Trench Comforts Fund and 'tho lied Cross '"Our Day" appeal. There are to bo sixteen stalls and a largo market formed in the Square. Sir. G. L. Donaldson is the honorary organiser, and the following are to have stalls: —Mesdames llean, I{. Anderson, Algar Williams, Betliell, Dalgety, ,1. Thomson, Poulton, Tobin, Steeds, Carney, SetliSmith, if. A. Knight, and C. \V. Ileid and Sliss Bathgate, and Miss Cooper is to have a cofl'eo stall. Spring in China, Miss Ella MacNeil, writing to Christcliurcli Iriends from China, towards tho cnil of April, says: "Spring is come in all its greenness and loveliness. British Red Cross and Order of St. John. His Excellency the Governor-General presided over a meeting of tlio Executive Committee of the Neiv Zealand Branch of tho British lied Cross Society ami Order of St. John, held at Government Houso yesterday. The following delegates were present:—Mrs. L. Ferguson (Otago Centre), llr. A. E. G. Rhodes (Canterbury Centre), Mr. .11. D. Robertson (Auckland Centre), llr. Thomas Young (Wellington Centre), Mr. G. Shirtclilfe, on behalf of the District Council, ami Lieutenant-Colonol lloorhouso, Officer-in-C'lmrge of Headquarters Office. Among various matters discussed tho following resolution was unanimously carried:— "That tlio j/otidou Committee be authorised to supply comforts as recommended from 'time to time by General Richardson to each transport and liner for sick and wounded soldiers only, not exceeding an average of ner mail, and that the New Zealand lied Cross Commissioner in London bo asked to arrange ull details regarding tho supplies and free distribution with General Richardson." Sailors' Friend Society. A concert was given by Miss Ifyra Gawler at tho .Sailors' Friend Society on Thursday evening. The items presented wore very much enjoyed.
