WAR GRATUITIES

The New Zealand Defence authorities have made the following general order:— "Arrangements have been completed with the Imperial Government for the pecuniary grants payable -under Articles 775, 782, 784, 1157, 1230, and 1235 of the Eoyal Pay Warrant to holders of the Victoria Cross, Military Gross, or. the Distinguished Conduct Medal to be paid to those members of the Now Zealand Expedition, .ary Force who receive these decorations. Eecovery will be made from the Imperial Government through the Treasury. "To those Eoldiers who have received the Victoria Cross a. special pension of JSIO per annum is payable from the date of tho act of bravery for which (he decoration was gained. An additional pension of £b a, ycax shall be granted for each bar added in consequence of further acts of bravery; and in.tho event of an annuitant being wnnble to earn a livelihood as the result of old age or infirmity, occasioned by cause beyond Lifi control the annuity may bo increased at the discretion of tho Army Council. "A soldier awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal or the Military Cross shall he paid a gratuity of J2O on promotion to a commission, or on discharge without pension. If discharged with a pension he 'Is oligiblc for an additional Gd. a day."
