Tor many months the- fact; lias been apparent that the British troops interned in Germany could not mniniiiin their heulth and strength oil tlio pittance of rations supplied by the Germans. ■ From many generous organisations thousands of parcels iiro dispatch'ed every fortnight and received with thankfulness by the interned men. The Salvation Army works in conjunction with the general scheme, and every name on its lists to receive a parcel is approved by tlio authorities, so that overlapping and waste do not occur. According to the arrangements provided by General Booth, the parcels are of a useful and varied character, and enable.-the recipient to supplement the Genuan food with those articles necessary to sustain life. At the present time the cost of the parcels works out at JMSOO per year. The Salvation Army has erected 153 refreshment and recreation huh in tho military camps in Great Britain, France, and other countries, at a cost of .£70,000. Seventy-seven hostels and naval and military homes, with 4000 beds, costing over ,£BO,OOO, are in operation, whilst extensions amounting to ,£20,000 are in progress. 'Thirty motor ambulance • cars have been supplied for the wnr zones in Prance, l?ussin, and Egypt, at nn expense of .£IO,OOO. Thirty thousanQ wives and. relatives of Service men have been entertained at teas and social gathering!!. Forty-one thousand food parcels und articles of clothing have been sent to prisoners of war and the troops. Three hundred thousand soldiers and sailors are catered for weekly in the various institutions of Hie Salvation Army at home and abroad.
