ABOUT GENERAL GODLEY
!AND HIS ENGLISH STAFF OFFICERS
The other day a question -was asked i ■ • iii tho House of Representatives about \ General Godley's staff. It was Mr. Payne who asked the question. Ho said that <senerdl Godley's staff,at the front consisted wholly or almost so of English- ■ men, and he asked whether the opportunity could not be given to New Zealanders to havo this experience in staff iduties. Sir James Allen, replying to this question yesterday, said that General Godley had only one staff officer concerned with the supervision of the New Zea- • land Expeditionary Force—Major Acland, military secretary. For his staff as commander of an army corps, General Godley no doubt had other officers. , Mr. Loo: Do wo pay these other men? Sir James Allen: No, we do not pay them. Nor do wo pay General Godley's salary. Since he took 'over command of an army corps this had been taken over ; from us by the Imperial Government.
