SOLDIERS' TEA
A QUESTION REGARDING QUALITY.
'A question regarding the quality of the tea provided for the troops in the To" 1 * tary camps was asked in tho House ot Roprosentatives yesterday by Mr. W. 1. Jennings (Taumarunni), ivno said ho was assured that somo of the tea waa undrin liable. The* Minister'of Munitions (tho Hon. A. M. Myers) replied that quality was always the first consideration in tho selection of supplies for tho camps. -Experts tested the samples and took every caro to secure the best available articles. He had not previously heard complaints concerning the tea, although he had made inquiries at various times. JIo would look into the matter again, • p Mr. G. Witty (Riccarton) asked if the Minister invited tenders for oamp sup* plies. Mr. Myers replied that it was tho usual practico to call for tenders. There were cases whero the Munitions Department possessed special knowledgo nud could do better by direot purchaso than by tender. If any member knew of a case where.the Department had erred ho would liko it to bo mentioned in tho House.
