A Press Association telegram from Dunedin states timt Mr. James Gore, 0.-c. Mayor of Dunedin, and a member of Parliament from 1861 to 1887, <lie<! yesterday. The lato Jlr. Gore was born in Liverpool, unit arrived in Victoria in 1852, coming to Otago in 1801. Mr. James Mackenzie, 1.5.0., and Mrs. Mackenzie havo returned from a visit to Auokland. News was received by cablegram yesterday morning that Mr. J. V. llanna, of Dunedin, who sailod from New Zealand with the .Twenty-first Reinforcements as T.M.C.A. field secretary, was slightly wounded in tho shoulder on July 12. Many will regret to hear of the serious illness of Mr. Joseph Ames, of Ellico Sheet, who lias been laid aside for some time past, and whose condition is giving his friends causo for anxiety. Mr. A. E. Fletcher, late manager of the Greytown Cheese Factory, was the recipient of a presentation after tho Anglican church service on Sundav oven, ing. Tho Kev. A. W. H. Compton, in making the presentation, referred to Mr. Fletcher's work in church matters, and said the gift was on behalf of tho vestry and choir. Mr. Fletcher is going to I'aeroa. Mr. Alva Shaw, of Wellington, haa returned from a business visit to Australia. A cablegram has been; received stating that Sergeant Alonzo P. Dwan, who was rocently wounded and gassed seriously in Franco, is now in tho Walton-on-'t'hames Hospital, London. The nature of his wounds have not been ascertained. He was reported as improving last week, but yesterday a. later cablegram announced that he was not as well aa ]io had been previously reported. Advice hns been received thnt Q.M.S. George Earnshair, who left with , the Thirteenth Beinforcomonts, has died of wounds.- Tho deceased was at ono timo manager of Messrs. Gibbons and Co/a Blenheim branch. Later he was for a year or two engaged on tho Moumahaki State Farm, and at tho timo of hie enlistment ho was in tho seed departmont of tho New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tivo Association in Christchurch. Q.M.S. Earnshaw was a married man, his wifo being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. TTelfer, of Blenheim, and thero is one child. - ' ' . Tho death is announced at Wanganui of Mr. John William Gannaway, who died on Saturday morning. Mr. Gannaway was educated in London, and arrived in New Zealand in May, 1867, with his father, and was employed in the Panama, New Zealand, and Australian Steamship Company service until 1870. Ho joined tho Telegraph Department, and was stationed in White's Bay and Auckland between 1870 and 1873. Ho was then appointed postmaster at Foxton, and in 1885 was appointed Sub-inspector of Telegraphs for Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast district, under the late Dr. Lemon. Ho held this position until 1599, when he v;as promoted to the position of Inspector of Telegraphs for the Canterbury district; which he held until May, 1912, when ho retired at the age of 60 years, having completed ■ forty-two years in the Government service.
