Master Strowan, who worried Ci'in out of the thiok cud of the purse in 1110 race ( mentioned, now meets him on lib. wo'.se terms, and should again have a chance of defeating tho South Island iviprcsentative. Gluepot, list. 51b., won at vVaiiganui with lOst. 81b., and at f-U'Valio with lObl. 71b. He finished fourth iu (ho Winter Steeples with list. 81b. and ?« 'ins in his right placo with list. 51b. He I'yvrell seasoned with racing, and the county at liiccarton should suit him. St. JKlnin, lOst. 21b., is well fancied by his connections, but the big fences at fiiceurton 'will not bo in favour of the Hastings .horse, who is a very oareful jumper. Of the remainder. Merry Lad, lOst., has his |Trentham form this year and last and .his second in the last National to rccom.nicnd him. Amongst tho hurdlers. Art is a great horse on his own course, aud very .little " sc elsewhere, as ho travels badly. Still, list. 81b., is a very different weight to what ho carried twelve months ago. Tor a beginner, Kiwi Poto gave a very good display at Trentbam,. where he appeared to be uuluoky not to win the Winder Hurdles, in which he carried list. He :is 'not badly treated with a rise of a pound, but the distance is half a mile iflrther. drib, list., is ono of the best-treated iiorses in the race, and it may be that his .owner will put him back on to the battens :m preference to the brush. Leonta is spoken of as a doubtful starter, though on .his running at Trenthain, where he was ■timshing fast on the Inst day with list. "."■• a nd his win in tho Winter Hurdles with lOst. 61b. ; he appears anything but ' adl y treated with lOst. 131b. Bon Kevo, lust. 91b., has not repeated his Wanganul lorm, but ho ran a fair race in the Final iiurdles at Trentbam after covering a lot of-ground. It is said that the old fellow .■will not. race except on the outside, but ■big handicaps are not won from there. The .Aucklanders, Marconi and Fisher, are both •on the 9st. 131b. mark, and the former appears the more reliable, as he gets round, which Fisher rarely does. There is long tail in this race, but most of them •will be troubled by the length of the Journey. The sale of the Shipley Stud, where Comedy' King and 'White Star'do stud duty as announced to take place early in January. It is an extraordinary fact that with ■two such high-class sires Sol Green failed to breed a really good 0110. If there is an exception it must be Biplane, who was :sold as a yearling and brought to this country. Those qualified to speak oil the subject state that the general absence of limestone country at Warrnambool Is against yearlings developing as they It seems that tho swollen knee EI Gallo received at Trentbam has proved troublesome, hence tho defection of tho champion irom the Nationals. His owner is to be uommendod for the prompt scratching of *he Spalpeen gelding. Last season's English crack. Hurry On, is unlikely to race ngain. This year the tendons of his off fore leg have given a lot ■ of. trouble, and early it was prophesied that if he started at all it would be very late in tho season. Now it appears there is practically no chance of his reappearance on a racecourse. Hurry On did notstart as a two-year-old, and last' season won each of the six races in which he ran therefore he will retire undefeated. ■ Leonta is a doubtful visitor to the Grand national Meeting. Accommodation was nooked for him at the Eacecourse Hotel stables, but it has now been cancelled. Dionysius is an unlikely starter at the Grand National Meeting. The injuries he sustained at Trentham proved to be more severe than was at first supposed.
