GREAT EXCITEMENT OVER FIRST AMERICAN DRAFT RUSH FOR NEWSPAPERS New York, July 20. Intense interest centres in the selection of the drafted recruits, which ci.niniences in. the State Department Building this morning. Throughout the country there is an unprecedented demand for the newspapers, bringing out the scores. Editions are bought up as soon as they reach the streets. Instead of striking news 1 headings,' tho front pages are devoted to a mass of figures snowing theorder in which, the men will be drawn. Men fought in the streets to obtain the editions. The drawing is not likely to be completed till Saturday morning.— Aus.-N.Z.' Cable Assn. NATIONAL SERVICE FAILS IN BRITAIN' GKEAT EXPENSE FOR NO RETURN. London, .Tuly 20. It is evident that the National Service 6cneme is a complete failure, and will be shortly closed down. It has been, a great expense, and the results _ have been negligible.
